5/4 - 2:59 p.m. - Police received a report of a domestic battery in progress, on East Mill Street. Upon the officer's arrival, an investigation was begun and, with the assistance of the Smithton Police Department, a suspect was taken into custody. Upon completion of the investigation, the report was forwarded to the St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office - Domestic Violence Unit. On May 6th the state's attorney charged the defendant, Derek A. Patterson, 35 of Millstadt, with one count of Domestic Battery; a Class A Misdemeanor.
