Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun charges.
On May 1, at approximately 5:45 p.m., members of the Wilmington Police Canine Unit were in the 700 block of West 4th Street, when they observed a male subject illegally operating a motorized scooter on a sidewalk. Police attempted to make contact with the male, at which time he fled the area. A short time later, police took 27-year-old Ikeem Thomas into custody without incident, who was found to be wanted on an unrelated matter. Police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun that had previously been reported stolen, and 3.0 grams of crack cocaine.
Thomas has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations and his outstanding warrant:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $9,000 cash-only bail.
