05-07-25: Debris Removal Update
Debris Cleanup – What’s Happening Now:
Southern Disaster Recovery (SDR) has been working diligently to clean up debris following the recent hurricane. Over the past few months, more than 500 debris removal requests were submitted through the county’s designated email address. SDR is making strong progress on completing those work orders and has already removed over 978,000 cubic yards of debris from public roads and rights-of-way. That is about 300 Olympic-sized pools of debris! All right-of-way debris removal must be completed by Friday, May 16. At this time, no new work orders are being accepted.
Private Property Debris Removal:
In addition to public debris removal, county officials recently met with the NC Emergency Management SMART Team to finalize plans for the Private Property Debris Removal Project. This program, which will be managed by the State, is designed to assist with clearing debris from privately owned properties. More details about this program and how to apply will be shared soon through the county’s Facebook page and Text Alert System.
