The New Castle Police Police Department participates in the Blue Envelope Program!
Blue Envelope Program
The New Police Department, in partnership with Westchester County and various other local municipalities, has launched the Blue Envelope Program. Designed to provide comfort and clarity to motorists with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) during police encounters, this initiative streamlines the process and fosters understanding for both drivers and officers. Read the official press release here.
At the New Castle Police Department, we are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive community that supports motorists with ASD.
What is the Blue Envelope Program?
Motorists with ASD and their chosen representatives can obtain a designated "blue envelope" from the New Castle Police Department. This envelope secures essential documents, including driver's licenses, registration, insurance cards, and emergency contact information. It also provides clear instructions for drivers, highlighting where to keep the envelope, how to communicate with officers, and how to respond during a stop.
Supporting Motorists and Police Officers Alike
The Blue Envelope not only assists drivers but also guides police officers on how to approach situations with sensitivity. Officers are advised to be aware of signs of anxiety, repetitive movements, or unusual eye contact. They are encouraged to use clear and simple language, allow extra time for responses, and inform drivers when the stop is complete. Officers can contact the person listed on the enclosed contact card in case of distress, ensuring a compassionate and professional interaction.
How to Participate
To participate in this vital program, simply call our police desk at (914) 238-4422 and select "1" for the front Desk Officer. A Police Officer will deliver a Blue Envelope to your residence, or you can pick one up at the New Castle Police Department, located at 200 South Greely Ave., Chappaqua.
