Mayor Anthony Copeland and City of East Chicago Partner with Alliance for the Great Lakes for Jeorse Park Beach Cleanup
Community Invited to Volunteer for a Day of Fun, Food, and Environmental Stewardship
Mayor Anthony Copeland and the City of East Chicago are pleased to announce an upcoming community event aimed at preserving the beauty of our local shoreline. In partnership with the Alliance for the Great Lakes, the City will host an "Adopt-a-Beach Cleanup" at Jeorse Park Beach on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Residents and volunteers are invited to join forces from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM to help keep Jeorse Park Beach clean and enjoyable for everyone. This family-friendly event will feature music, food, and a fun atmosphere, fostering community spirit while making a tangible difference to the local environment. Gloves and bags will be provided to all participants.
"Our lakefront is a vital asset to East Chicago, providing recreation and natural beauty for our residents," said Mayor Anthony Copeland. "This cleanup is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, take pride in our beach, and contribute to its preservation. We are proud to partner with the Alliance for the Great Lakes for this important initiative."
The event underscores the City's commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. Volunteers will play a crucial role in removing litter and debris, helping to protect wildlife and improve the overall health of Lake Michigan.

• WHAT: Jeorse Park Beach Cleanup – "Let's Clean Up Our Beach!"

• WHERE: Jeorse Park Beach Bathhouse (located behind the Ameristar Casino parking garage), East Chicago, IN.

REGISTRATION & CHECK-IN:
All volunteers, whether pre-registered or not, must check in upon arrival at the Jeorse Park Beach Bathhouse.
Participants are encouraged to register in advance.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTEERS:

• Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
• Wear closed-toe, comfortable shoes suitable for walking on sand and potentially uneven terrain.
• Water and lunch will be provided for all volunteers.
