I-287 Lane Closures

I-287 northbound overnight lane closures required for the next several months in Somerset and Morris counties
I-287 northbound daytime shoulder closures this week.

(Trenton) – I-287 northbound is expected to have overnight lane closures beginning next week between I-78 in Bedminster, Somerset County and South Street/CR 601 in Morristown, Morris County as a pavement preservation project begins. In addition, the shoulder on I-287 northbound is scheduled to be closed during the day this week for construction sign installation.

I-287 northbound Overnight Lane Closures
Beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, May 12, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 13 and continuing Monday through Friday nights at the same time over the next several months, lane closures are scheduled on I-287 northbound in various locations from I-78 in Bedminster to South Street/CR 601 in Morristown. The lane closures are necessary to restripe the roadway, remove raised pavement markings (RPMs) and rumble strips, and repair pavement. At least one lane will be maintained overnight. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while driving through the work zone.

This work will affect approximately five ramps within the project limits. In the event a ramp is closed overnight for construction, motorists are advised to follow the posted detour.

I-287 northbound Daytime Lane Closures
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 12 and continuing daily Tuesday, May 13 through Friday, May 16 at the same time, shoulder closures are scheduled on I-287 northbound in various locations from I-78 in Bedminster to South Street/CR 601 in Morristown. The shoulder closures are necessary to place construction signs. In the event of inclement weather, daytime shoulder closures may continue into the following week, Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 23. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while driving through the work zone.

This work is part of the $7.7 million federally funded I-287 northbound, I-78 to South Street/CR 601 Pavement Preservation Project. This project will mill and pave approximately 14 miles of I-287 in Bedminster, Far Hills and Bernards Township, Somerset County and Harding, Morris Township and Morristown, Morris County. The project will also include the milling and paving of some ramps within the project limits. The project is expected to be completed in early fall 2025.
