SWAT Team Safely Apprehends Armed Suspect Barricaded in Apartment
On May 12th, 2025, the Union City Police Department’s SWAT Team successfully apprehended an adult male suspect who had barricaded himself in an apartment after committing a battery while armed with a knife.
At approximately 8:30 pm, officers responded to the Parkside Apartments (1501 Decoto Road) in response to a report of a battery involving a weapon. Upon arrival, officers determined the suspect, Navroop Sandhu, a 34-year-old male from Fremont, punched a female adult inside an apartment while armed with a knife. The victim suffered minor injuries during the incident. Officers were successfully able to evacuate all occupants of the home, within a short period of time, however, the suspect brandished a knife at officers and refused police commands to exit the apartment.
Due to the threat posed by the armed and barricaded suspect, the SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene. After several hours of negotiation and de-escalation efforts, the suspect eventually exited the residence, still armed with the knife. The suspect ignored commands and was taken into custody using less lethal force and with the assistance of a police canine. The suspect sustained minor injuries during the incident and was medically cleared prior to being booked at Santa Rita Jail. No officers were injured during the incident and there are no current public safety threats in the area.
