Gloucester Township Police Media Release - Serious Motor Vehicle Collision on Sicklerville Road Prompts Multi-Agency Response
On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at approximately 8:15 PM, the Gloucester Township Police Department (GTPD) responded to a serious motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle on Sicklerville Road. Responding officers, along with fire and medical personnel, quickly located the driver trapped within the vehicle. Fire personnel successfully extricated the driver, who then received immediate emergency medical care before being transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
A preliminary investigation by the GTPD's Serious Crash Investigation Team (SCIT) revealed that the vehicle was traveling on Sicklerville Road when it drifted off the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle struck several street signs and eventually collided with the concrete footing of the State Highway 42 overpass. The vehicle continued to scrape along the concrete footing for the entire length of the overpass before ultimately striking a South Jersey Gas main, leading to a substantial gas leak.
Given the severity of the incident, multiple agencies were activated to ensure a coordinated and efficient response, including medical assistance, scene stabilization, utility management, and crash investigation. The response involved a wide range of agencies, including the Gloucester Township Police Department (GTPD), Gloucester Township Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Washington Twp Police Department, Camden County Department of Public Safety (Hazmat/OEM/Fire Coordinators), Camden County Prosecutor's Office Crash Investigation Team, and the New Jersey State Police (NJSP). Fire and rescue services were provided by Gloucester Township Fire District 86, Pine Hill Fire Department, Lambs Terrace Fire Company, Chews Landing Fire Department, Blackwood Fire Department, and Washington Township Ladder 1026. Medical support was provided by Virtua Medics and Inspira BLS. Additionally, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and South Jersey Gas were engaged to address utility management and ensure the safety of the affected area, while the Gloucester Township Police Department's Serious Crash Investigation Team (SCIT) led the crash investigation. The investigation remains active and is being led by the SCIT. At this stage, no criminal charges have been filed. The identities of the individuals involved are being withheld pending further investigation and notification of the driver's family members. Due to the incident and ongoing utility repairs, Sicklerville Road is closed from the Black Horse Pike to Hickstown Road. Motorists can continue to access Route 42 North but are advised to follow instructions from officers on the scene.
