Press Release: Felony Assault Suspect Arrested

For Immediate Release

SUBJECT:     Felony Assault Suspect Arrested

LOCATION: 300 Block of Redwood Avenue, Redwood City

DATE/TIME: May 14, 2025, Approximately 3:36 P.M.

On May 14, 2025, at approximately 3:36 P.M., Redwood City Police Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance between roommates in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered that one of the residents was armed with an axe, holding it over his head, and threatened to strike another resident. Officers quickly determined that the suspect had retreated to the rear yard of the property.

Officers promptly established a perimeter around the area and advised neighbors to remain indoors for safety. Despite numerous announcements and attempts to gain voluntary compliance, the suspect refused all commands. Members of the Department’s Crisis Negotiations Unit arrived on scene and initiated dialogue with the suspect. After approximately 30 minutes of negotiations, officers successfully de-escalated the situation and safely took the suspect into custody without injury to him, officers, or the victim.

The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Redwood City resident Eduardo Lazoflores. He was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and subsequently booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of Penal Code 245(A)(1) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Penal Code 148(A)(1) – Obstruction of Justice.

Fortunately, no injuries occurred to any involved parties, highlighting a positive outcome achieved through effective negotiation and de-escalation techniques. While not every incident can be resolved peacefully, this particular event underscores the complexities and critical importance of police crisis response training. It emphasizes the necessity of patience, negotiation skills, and tactical planning in ensuring community and officer safety. The successful resolution of this incident demonstrates how essential trained negotiators and de-escalation strategies are in safely managing volatile situations.

The circumstances leading to this event remain under investigation; however, it currently appears isolated to this specific residence involving roommate-related tensions. Anyone with additional information about this case is encouraged to contact the Redwood City Police Department’s non-emergency line at (650) 780-7100.
