JPD Retirement Announcement 
Congratulations to School Resource Officer Shane A. Punzel on his Retirement!
On Friday, May 16, 2025, Officer Shane A. Punzel will officially retire from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after over 29 years of service to the City of Janesville.
Officer Punzel has served as a member of the JPD since his hire in February 1996. In the course of his employment, he had a variety of assignments, including A Shift Patrol, B Shift Patrol, C Shift Patrol, Safety Committee, Range Officer, SWAT Team, School Resource Officer for Edison Middle School, and most recently at Franklin Middle School. He was also an Instructor for Firearms, Defense and Arrest Tactics (DAAT), Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT)
The Janesville Police Department has acknowledged School Resource Officer Punzel for his contributions on several occasions. These recognitions include Meritorious Service Citation in 1996, Police Officer of the Year in 2013, Exemplary Service Citation in 2016, and a Chief’s Commendation in 2009, 2015, and 2024.
The Janesville Police Department would like to thank Officer Punzel for over 29 years of dedicated service to his community, the Janesville Police Department, and the City of Janesville.
