Citizen’s Academy Graduation, Class #2

Nature of Incident: Citizen’s Academy Graduation, Class #2
Location: Moorpark Police Department - 610 Spring Road, Moorpark, CA
Date & Time: March 2025 to May 2025
Narrative:

The Moorpark Police Department is pleased to announce the completion of our second
Citizen’s Academy Class.

Nine participants completed an eight-week course designed to give community members an overview of the police department’s function and operational procedures. The goal is to educate the public on the day-to-day operations of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and show how resources are deployed.

During the eight weeks, participants were able to interact with and ask questions of a
variety of subject matter experts. These experts were a combination of sworn, professional
and volunteer staff members. Topics varied weekly and included presenters from our Investigations Unit, Major Crimes Unit, Internal Affairs Bureau, Tactical Units, Volunteers in
Policing, Explorer Program, and K9 Unit.  In addition to these guest presenters, attendees participated in field trip tours to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Criminal Justice Training Center and the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.

The next Citizen’s Academy is set to start on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025. The course is free and will be held each week on Wednesday evenings at the Moorpark Police Services Center.

Potential candidates must be at least 21 years of age, live or work in Ventura County, and have no felony or misdemeanor convictions within one year of applying. For more information, follow this link to apply: https://www.venturasheriff.org/divisions/patrol-services/citizen-academy/.
