NJ Transit rail service to resume Tuesday; Leave extra travel time & expect delays Monday
NJ Transit has announced it has reached a tentative agreement with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), which will result in rail service resuming on Tuesday, May 20, as it takes NJ Transit 24 hours to conduct inspections before service can safely resume.
As such, rail service will remain suspended on Monday, May 19.
NJ Transit has NOT offered cross-honoring with other transit agencies. This means NJ Transit tickets and passes will not be accepted on Amtrak, MTA, PATH, ferries, or private carrier buses. Customers using these services must purchase separate fares from those service providers.
Residents can plan alternate travel methods via the “services” drop-down menu at njtransit.com, selecting “plan your trip,” entering their origin and destination, date, departure time, and travel mode.

The Hoboken Police Department and Office of Emergency Management will deploy additional officers, traffic control officers, and OEM personnel to help manage traffic flow as congestion is expected, particularly during morning and evening rush hours.
Hoboken’s Office of Emergency Management encourages residents to stay off the roads, if possible, and use other transit options, including PATH, NJ Transit bus, NY Waterway ferry, Light Rail, Citi Bike, or Hop shuttle for local trips.
If you must drive, consider carpooling with a trusted friend or family member.
Residents are strongly encouraged to leave extra travel time as traffic delays are to be expected, and lines for other transportation options may be longer than usual.
