Freeway Racing Leads To Pursuit And Arrest

On May 19, 2025, at approximately 10:14 p.m., Simi Valley Police Department officers were conducting traffic enforcement near a known car meet-up location within the City of Simi Valley when an officer observed two vehicles engaging in a street race on the SR-118 Freeway. An SVPD officer attempted a traffic stop on one of the racing vehicles near Rocky Peak Road and SR-118. The driver failed to yield, turned off the vehicle’s headlights, and accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. A pursuit was initiated.

During the course of the pursuit, the fleeing driver collided with an uninvolved vehicle in the area of Osborne Street and San Fernando Road in the City of Los Angeles. The collision resulted in minor property damage; fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The pursuit continued into the Los Angeles area, where the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) provided aerial support. The pursuit concluded safely when the suspect voluntarily surrendered near West Burbank Boulevard, just off Interstate 5.

The driver was identified as 18-year-old Travis Sehler, a resident of Simi Valley. Sehler was arrested and booked at the Ventura County Mail Jail for the following charges:

  • 2800.2(a) VC – Felony Evading a Peace Officer
  • 20002(a) VC  – Hit and Run
  • 23109(a) VC  – Engaging in a Speed Contest
Sehler’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days pursuant to 23109.2 VC.

The Simi Valley Police Department reminds the public that illegal street racing poses serious risks to everyone on the roadway. We remain committed to proactive enforcement efforts to deter this dangerous behavior.
