GTPD Takes Part In The National "Click it or Ticket" Enforcement And Education Campaign
The Gloucester Township Police Department will join with police from around the country in cracking down on unbuckled motorists and passengers as part of the national "Click it or Ticket" enforcement and education campaign.
Beginning May 19th and running through June 1st, the annual "Click It or Ticket" national mobilization utilizes high visibility seat belt checkpoints and saturation patrols, in combination with local and national publicity efforts, to reiterate the life-saving value of seat belts.
GTPD Officers will be assigned to conduct enforcement operations on the roadways identified throughout town that have higher incidents of crashes involving unrestrained occupants. Additional Officers assigned to the Traffic Safety Unit will give presentations to high school seniors addressing the dangers of not wearing a seat belt and driving while intoxicated as prom season is upon us.
Why buckle up?
- Reduced risk of serious injury:
Seat belts can prevent a person from being ejected from a vehicle in a crash and can help to distribute forces of impact over a larger area of the body.
- Increased survival rate:
Wearing a seat belt can increase your chances of surviving a car crash by up to 50%.
- Legally required:
Seat belt laws are in place to protect drivers and passengers, and failing to wear a seat belt can result in a ticket and other penalties.
