"On Memorial Day Weekend, members of the American Legion Post 250 and VFW Post 9116 and their Auxiliaries along with the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard will conduct their annual Poppy Drive to raise money for local Veterans' relief funding. We welcome any assistance from local groups and individuals who want to join in honoring our deceased veterans. For several years we have had many small groups working to place more than 500 American Flags in less than two hours.

After we have completed our work at the Polk County Memorial Gardens, many of us will go to Saluda, NC to place over 200 American Flags on the graves of Veterans in the Saluda Cemetery and Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. We should arrive around 11:00 am.

On Monday morning, Memorial Day, May 26, 2025 at 10:00 am, The VFW Post 9116 and Auxiliary along with the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard will conduct our forty-sixth continuous Memorial Day Ceremony to honor our deceased Veterans at the Polk County Memorial Garden Cemetery. McFarland Funeral Home will provide seating under a tent for those who come to the Ceremony. Those who attend may bring a lawn chair if desired.

On Monday afternoon, May 26, 2025 at 3:30 pm, The VFW Post 9116 and Auxiliary along with the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard will also conduct our Memorial Day Ceremony at the Saluda Veterans Park in Saluda, NC.

Please join us and help fulfill our commitment to remember and honor those men and women who gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.
