Five People Sustained Injuries when their Boat Flipped Over in the Colorado River Near the Sandbar

INCIDENT: Major Injury Boat Accident
LOCATION: Colorado River near the Sandbar
SUMMARY: On May 24, 2025, at approximately 5:07 p.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Marine Enforcement Unit was dispatched to a boat accident on the Colorado River near Blankenship Bend. Dispatch advised there were several people in the water with injuries and the involved boat had flipped over and was floating in shallow water. According to witnesses, the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed during a turning movement and the port sponson caught a chine causing the boat to flip over. Three passengers suffered minor injuries and were transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, Az. The operator and a female passenger suffered major injuries. The operator was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Nevada and the female passenger was taken to University Medical Center in Nevada. This incident is currently under investigation and it appears speed was a factor in the accident.
