The National Weather Service has issued the following:
What: Rip Current Statement
Where: Queens, Brooklyn
When: 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on 5/29
Hazards: High risk of life-threatening rip currents. The surf zone is dangerous for all levels of swimmers and can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
Preparedness Actions:
- Always swim near a lifeguard.
- Use caution when swimming near groins, jetties, reefs, and piers
- If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Relax and float, and if possible, swim parallel to the shore line.
- Remember to heed the advice of the local beach patrol and flag warning systems.
