Fatal Traffic Collision on Ely Boulevard South in Petaluma 
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at approximately 3:01 pm, personnel from the Petaluma Police Department and Petaluma Fire Department responded to a vehicle collision involving a bicyclist in the area of Ely Boulevard South at Capistrano Drive. Multiple community members called to report a bicyclist, and an Acura sedan had been involved in a serious collision. Petaluma Police Officers and Petaluma Fire Department Paramedics arrived within minutes. Tragically, the bicyclist succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The investigation is still ongoing, but preliminarily it was determined both the bicyclist and sedan were traveling northbound on Ely Boulevard South with the collision occurring just south of Capistrano Drive. At this point, the cause of the collision is still under investigation. Currently, there is no indication alcohol was a factor in the collision.
If anyone witnessed the collision or could provide evidence such as video, please contact Traffic Officer Chis Ricci at 707-781-1275. The identity of the bicyclist is not being released until Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Unit makes proper family notification.
