NWS issues flood watch for Hoboken tonight; Do not move or go around barricades

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Hoboken, from 8 p.m. tonight, May 30, through tomorrow morning. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall of greater than 0.8 inches per hour is possible, especially in flood-prone, low-lying areas.

NWS indicates rainfall rates may be as high as 1 to 2 inches per hour during the heaviest rain periods, which is expected from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) reminds residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Barricades have been placed near these intersections, and the City’s Flood Warning System will be activated if necessary. Do not move, walk, or drive around barricades. Do not go through flooded areas.

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and are encouraged to follow the City’s social media accounts for storm updates including the Hoboken OEM X page at @HobokenOEM, the City’s X page at @CityofHoboken, and the Hoboken Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/Hoboken.
