DATE/TIME: June 2,2025 at 6:00 p.m.
INCIDENT: Welfare Check Leads to Arrest for Child Endangerment
LOCATION: 1200 block of South E Street, San Bernardino
SUSPECT(S): Anthony Powers, 44-year-old-male resident of San Bernardino
VICTIM(S): Juvenile Victim
SUMMARY: On June 2, 2025, at 6:00 PM, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's H.O.P.E. Team responded to the 1200 block of South E Street in San Bernardino to conduct a welfare check on a 16-year-old girl. The welfare check was prompted when Anthony Powers, a 44-year-old man, accessed housing benefits for both himself and the minor female he claimed was his stepdaughter.
Despite the claim, Powers failed to provide supporting documentation to verify the relationship. Deputies discovered the female was a reported missing juvenile, Powers was not her stepfather, and there was evidence of a romantic relationship between the two parties.
Deputies located suspected narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia in a hotel room shared by Powers and the minor. Deputies learned Powers was prohibited from contact with the minor under a previously issued criminal protective order.
Powers was arrested on suspicion of Child Endangerment - PC 273A(a), Violation of a Domestic Violence Restraining Order - PC 273.6(a), and Possession of Narcotics - H&S11350(a). Powers was booked at the Central Detention Center and is being held on $75,000 bail.
