Narrative:

During the month of April 2025, detectives within the Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) began an investigation into the “Barry Street,” criminal street gang located in the City of Camarillo. This investigation stemmed from the uptick in “Barry Street” gang graffiti within the City of Camarillo.

Throughout the duration of the investigation, SEU Detectives identified, “Barry Street” Gang member, (S) Johnny Bernal, as the suspect in the graffiti vandalisms. SEU Detectives subsequently developed probable cause to arrest Bernal for the following violations, California Penal Code Sections 594(b)(1) – [Felony Graffiti Vandalism], 186.22(a) – [Participation, Promotion, Furtherance of a Criminal Street Gang], and 594(b)(2)(A) – [Misdemeanor Vandalism].

During the month of May 2025, SEU Detectives obtained a search warrant signed by a Magistrate of the Ventura County Superior Court. The search warrant ordered detectives to search Bernal’s person, residence, vehicles, and property.

On May 30, 2025, detectives with SEU, the Camarillo Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU), and the Camarillo Investigations Bureau served the signed Ventura County search warrant at Bernal’s residence located in the 3800 Block of Berylwood Road in the unincorporated community of Somis. During the service of the warrant Bernal was contacted in the front yard of his residence and immediately complied with the detective’s orders. Bernal was taken into custody on scene without incident for the above listed criminal charges.

During the search of the residence, detectives located various papers and books containing, “Barry Street,” criminal street gang drawings. Additionally, detectives located additional evidence linking Bernal to the specific graffiti vandalism’s originally being investigated by SEU Detectives. Lastly, detectives located an unregistered 12 Gauge Winchester shotgun inside the residence. All evidence was subsequently seized by detectives.

Bernal was later transported and booked at the Ventura Pre-Trial Detention Facility for the above listed criminal charges.
