Advisory

Air Quality Alert until 11:00PM

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Air Quality Action Day remains in effect for the following counties: Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, and Union, until 11 PM EDT this evening. An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Sensitive individuals, including the very young, the elderly, and persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should avoid strenuous activities during the afternoon and early evening hours. Partly cloudy skies, accompanied by light surface winds and high temperatures, will create a favorable environment for ozone levels to rise into the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category in northern and central portions of the state. Lingering Canadian wildfire smoke may also help to enhance surface ozone levels. For additional information, please visit the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Web site at https://dep.nj.gov/airmon/
