SUSPECT(S): Leticia Juarez, 47-year-old resident of Barstow, California
James King, 50-year-old resident of Barstow, California
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: In early May 2025, investigators looked into a narcotics smuggling operation involving an inmate housed at the High Desert Detention Center (HDDC). The inmate, identified as Brandon King, was suspected of coordinating with an out-of-custody female accomplice, Leticia Juarez, to facilitate the introduction of narcotics into the facility.
On June 4, 2025, following a thorough investigation, investigators located Leticia Juarez in the city of Barstow and took her into custody without incident. Based on the evidence gathered, both Brandon King and Leticia Juarez are facing felony charges, including conspiracy to commit a crime and smuggling controlled substances into a correctional facility.
Detention staff continue to work diligently to prevent the introduction of illegal drugs into the jail system. These ongoing efforts are critical to maintaining the safety and security of both staff and inmates and to reducing drug-related incidents and overdoses within the facilities. The Detentions and Corrections Division remains committed to using every available resource to keep our jails drug-free.
