Important Community Notice on Immigration Enforcement Activities
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) has reaffirmed its policy, stating:
“LASD deputies do not ask people about their immigration status. We do not engage in law enforcement behavior that is motivated by race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or immigration status.”
However, it is important to note that the National Guard has been activated to assist federal ICE operations in Southern California. ICE is currently focused on arresting individuals with active federal warrants. Still, as these operations unfold, some individuals not named in the original warrants have been detained due to interference or obstruction.
The right to protest at any level of government is protected and valued. However, when a protest turns violent or poses a threat to public safety, local law enforcement, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, may be required to intervene to maintain order and ensure community safety.
The City of Duarte strongly urges all residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding during any public demonstrations. Let us continue to uphold the values of respect, safety, and community unity.
