INCIDENT: Homicide Investigation
LOCATION: 9800 block of Banana Avenue, Fontana
SUSPECT(S): Jonathan Mota, 42-year-old Male, Resident of Fontana
Karina Rivera, 34-year-old Female, Resident of Fontana
VICTIM(S): Valentin Martinez, 42-year-old Male, Resident of Fontana
SUMMARY: On Friday, June 6, 2025, deputies with the Fontana station responded to a call of a man lying in the roadway. When deputies arrived, they found Valentin Martinez had been shot. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, responded and assumed the investigation. Through investigation, it was determined Jonathan Mota and Karina Rivera were responsible for Martinez’s death. On Monday, June 9, 2025, with assistance from Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, Sheriff’s Gang Division, Mohave County Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Apprehension Team, Mota and Rivera were located and arrested in an area outside of Kingman Arizona. They are currently being held in the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department, awaiting extradition back to San Bernardino County.
