**Update on Officer-Involved Shooting Incident – June 7, 2025**

The Amarillo Police Department is providing an update regarding the officer-involved shooting that occurred on June 7, 2025, involving the decedent, Justin Lee Crouch.

An autopsy was ordered by Justice of the Peace Garcia Flores and was conducted on this day in Lubbock, Texas. The results of the autopsy revealed that Mr. Crouch died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Through ongoing investigations, it was determined that Mr. Crouch, the sole occupant of the vehicle, fired one round while inside the vehicle. Officers on the scene observed Mr. Crouch obtain a firearm and manipulate the slide. In response to the situation, one officer discharged four rounds into the vehicle; however, none of the rounds fired by the officer struck Mr. Crouch.

The Amarillo Police Department is committed to transparency while the Homicide Unit continues to investigate this incident thoroughly.

Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation

 

Amarillo, Texas – On Saturday, June 7, 2025, at approximately 11:38 a.m., Amarillo Police Department officers were dispatched to Walmart, located at 4215 S. Georgia Street, to conduct a welfare check on a male subject reported to be sleeping inside a vehicle. Walmart loss prevention personnel attempted to make contact with the individual but were unsuccessful.

 

Upon arrival, officers located a single male occupant in the vehicle. While attempting to communicate with the individual, officers observed a firearm inside the vehicle. Officers backed away for safety, at which time a shot was fired from within the vehicle. In response, one officer discharged their weapon.

 

The male subject, later identified as Justin Lee Crouch(DOB: 06/06/1983), was found deceased inside the vehicle. His next of kin has been notified. Justice of the Peace Garcia Flores was contacted and ordered an autopsy.

 

No officers were injured during the incident. The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the event.

 

Further information will be released as it becomes available and appropriate.
