CRIME PREVENTION TIPS

Crime prevention is key to reducing your risk of being a victim of robbery:
  • Be mindful of your environment: Remain vigilant regarding the individuals in your vicinity, particularly in areas that may pose a risk, such as ATMs, alleyways, dimly lit parking lots, or isolated streets.
  • Heed your instincts: If a situation or person causes you discomfort, it is advisable to steer clear of that individual or vacate the location.
  • Walk assertively: Keep a consistent pace, maintain an upright posture, and refrain from distractions such as using your mobile device or listening to music at a high volume. This approach renders you a less attractive target.
  • Safety in numbers: Whenever feasible, travel with companions or in a group. Reduce the visibility of wealth:
  • Avoid showcasing significant amounts of cash or valuable jewelry in public settings.
  • Alter your routine: Refrain from engaging in the same activities at the same time each day, particularly when conducting bank transactions.
  • Report any suspicious behavior: Inform law enforcement about unfamiliar individuals or vehicles that appear to be lingering or behaving questionably.

SPECIFIC SITUATIONS
  • On the Street: Walk in well-lit and populated areas. Avoid taking shortcuts through dark alleys or isolated locations. Keep your purse or bag close to your body, and refrain from placing the strap across your shoulder where someone may easily snatch it. If you suspect you are being followed, move towards a busy area and contact the police. In the event of a robbery, comply and surrender your belongings. Your safety takes precedence over material possessions.
  • At the ATM: Utilize ATMs located in well-lit, populated areas, preferably during daylight hours. Survey the surroundings before and after using the ATM. Do not leave with cash in hand; if you need to count it, do so at the machine.
  • In Your Vehicle: Always ensure your car doors are locked, both when you are inside and outside the vehicle. Park in well-lit areas. Have your car keys ready before approaching your vehicle. Inspect the back seat before entering your car. If you believe you are being followed, drive to a public location or a police station.
  • At Your Business: Ensure good visibility in your store by avoiding cluttered windows. Maintain proper lighting both inside and outside. Install surveillance cameras, particularly behind the cash register. Keep minimal cash in registers and utilize a drop safe. Vary the times and routes for deposits, and consider employing an armored car service. Greet every customer who enters your establishment. Have a strategy for managing a robbery, which includes employee training and alarm activation protocols.
By maintaining vigilance, being aware of your surroundings, and taking precautionary steps, you can significantly reduce your chances of falling victim to robbery.
