San Mateo, CA – On June 11, 2025, at 7:10 a.m., an adult female reported being the victim of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats that allegedly occurred on 05/26/2025 with her ex-boyfriend as the suspect, later identified in this investigation as Daniel Erickson. Erickson allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim and told her she was not free to leave Erickson’s residence. Both a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) and search warrant for Erickson’s residence was authored and granted.
 
At approximately 10:11 p.m., an SMPD officer located Erickson’s vehicle in the area of North San Mateo Drive and Bellevue Avenue. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and Erickson was detained, without incident. The search warrant was then executed at Erickson’s residence, and officers located several black powder cap and ball firearms, one of which was loaded, weapon accessories including those to melt metal, and a mold for pressing ball ammunition. Pepper spray, a pepper spray gun, brass/metal knuckles, and a cane sword were also located. Erickson was ultimately arrested for violations of 245 (A) (2) PC-Assault with a Firearm on a Person, 422 (A) PC-Criminal Threats, 21810 PC-Possession of Metal Knuckles, 20510 PC-Possession of a Cane Sword, and 22810 (A) PC-Unlawful Possession of a Tear Gas Weapon. Erickson was later booked into the San Mateo County Jail without further incident.
