Red Flag Warning until 09:00PM Tuesday
...RED FLAG WARNING FOR PORTIONS OF WESTERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO ON TUESDAY FROM 12PM TO 9PM MDT DUE TO STRONG WINDS, VERY LOW HUMIDITY, AND HIGH FIRE DANGER... .Very low humidity will combine with breezy west winds and dry fuels to create high fire danger in western and central New Mexico Tuesday afternoon. Eight to fifteen hours of single digit relative humidity will also contribute to the drying of fuels. Numerous lightning strikes occurred over the southwestern mountains last Friday so the increased winds may spread recent fire starts. This along with ongoing wildfires is posing higher risk for rapid fire spread. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning...which is in effect from noon to 9 PM MDT Tuesday.
* AREA AND TIMING...Northwest Plateau (Zone 101) and the Middle Rio Grande Valley (Zone 106) Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening.
* 20 FOOT WINDS...Sustained at 15 to 25 mph with occasional gusts to 35 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...4 to 7 percent.
* IMPACTS...Any ongoing or new fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
* AFFECTED AREAS: NORTHWEST PLATEAU ... MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY
