Harper Woods and several surrounding communities have experienced a series of A/C condenser thefts. The suspects are disconnecting the power to the units, cutting the refrigerant lines, then stealing the A/C condenser unit. We believe the units are being sold on the street for profit. Detectives from several police agencies are working together and investigating this crime pattern. Corner houses seem to be targeted more, likely due to accessibility. The thefts are primarily committed overnight.
Residents are encouraged to monitor their neighborhoods for suspicious vehicles and subjects on foot, especially after midnight. A preventative measure may be to lock the junction box which contains the A/C condenser fuse. This junction box is typically located on the side of the house near the A/C unit.
