City of Newark 4th of July Social Host Ordinance
Hosting a 4th of July Celebration?
Under The City of Newark’s Fireworks Social Host Ordinance, property owners and party hosts are held responsible for illegal fireworks used on their premises. That means, if someone lights illegal fireworks at your gathering or on your property, YOU can be fined — even if you didn’t light them yourself!
Fines for illegal fireworks are $1,000 PER VIOLATION, and yes, you can be cited multiple times.
“Safe & Sane” fireworks approved by the State Fire Marshal are ONLY allowed in Newark from midnight June 30th - midnight July 4th.
Anything outside this timeframe, or the use of illegal fireworks, is a violation and can result in serious penalties.
The Newark Police Department takes fireworks safety seriously. Citations will be issued to anyone found breaking the law.
To report individuals using, possessing, or selling illegal fireworks, call the Fireworks Hotline at (866) 520-7233 (SAFE).
For emergencies, always call 911.
Let's celebrate safely and responsibly this 4th of July.
