Fireworks Incident Causes Injury to Juvenile
Fireworks Incident Injures Petaluma Juvenile
Petaluma, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, June 17, 2025, a juvenile in Petaluma sustained significant injuries after igniting a firework that exploded in his hand. The incident resulted in trauma to the individual's hand, arm, and chest.
While the juvenile is expected to make a full recovery, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers fireworks pose—particularly when handled improperly or illegally. Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed and the incident did not result in a broader fire emergency, but the outcome could have been far worse.
Fireworks Are Illegal in Petaluma
The City of Petaluma wishes to remind residents that all fireworks are illegal within city limits, including those marketed as “safe and sane.” This prohibition is in place to protect the safety of individuals, pets, and property—especially during California’s high-risk fire season.
Violators of the fireworks ban are subject to fines and penalties, which may include criminal charges depending on the circumstances.
With Fourth of July around the corner, we encourage our community to celebrate safely. There are several Fourth of July firework events happening throughout Sonoma County that are open to the public which can be found here: https://www.happeningsonomacounty.com/fourth-july-activities-sonoma-county/
