Hawai‘i Island police have arrested a 22-year-old Ocean View woman in connection with a pedestrian traffic collision that substantially injured a 24-year-old Ocean View man in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision on Tuesday evening, June 17, 2025.
At 9:10 p.m., Ka‘ū patrol officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision near the area of Princess Kaiulani Boulevard and Lotus Blossom Lane. Upon arrival, officers contacted 22-year-old Alaina Kainoa-Aukai who identified herself as the operator of the vehicle and displayed signs of impairment.
Kainoa-Aukai was arrested for:
- First-degree negligent injury
- Operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant
- First-degree assault against a law enforcement officer
The pedestrian, a possible boyfriend of Kainoa-Aukai, sustained substantial bodily injury as a result of the collision and was transported by medical personnel to Kona Community Hospital for treatment.
Additional investigation into the incident revealed that this event may be associated with domestic violence. Kainoa-Aukai is currently being held at the Kona Police Station pending additional investigation by the Area II Juvenile Aid Section detectives.
