June 17, 2025 – Swearing In & Awards Ceremony
Congratulations to the newest employees of the Pocatello Police Department who were sworn in on Tuesday June 17, 2025.

  • Ordinance Officer Perkins
  • Patrol Officer Bake
  • Patrol Officer Katzenstein
  • Patrol Officer King
Life Saving Awards were presented to several officers for their meritorious service, which directly resulted in the saving of a human life.
  • Officer Martinez - For exceptionally meritorious service on the 17th day of May, 2025 which directly resulted in the saving of a human life.  Officers were dispatched to the area of 8500 N. Kraft Rd for a female who consumed alcohol and anti-depressants attempting to commit suicide.  Officer CLEMONS and Officer MARTINEZ contacted a female inside the residence.  Officers had prior knowledge of the female having mental health issues and spoke with her gaining her trust and getting her to tell them what medications she had taken.    She also told them where the bottles were.  This information was relayed to EMS which provided timely and valuable medical intervention.  Officers followed the ambulance to the Portneuf Medical Center where they placed her on a mental hold.  The female called the shift commander to give her appreciation to the Officers for saving her life.  Officer MARTINEZ’S actions reflect the values, mission and vision of the Pocatello Police Department and reflect great credit upon him, our department, and the law enforcement profession.
  • Officer Johnson - For exceptionally meritorious service on the 20th day of October, 2024 which directly resulted in the saving of a human life.  Officers were dispatched to the area of the Benton Street Overpass for a male threatening to jump and commit suicide.  Officer P. JOHNSON arrived on scene and observed a male on the train side of the fence saying that he was going to jump.  Officer P. JOHNSON jumped on the fence reaching over the top and grabbing the male by his belt loop pulling him toward the fence.  A male citizen arrived and assisted Officer P. JOHNSON holding the male until more patrol units arrived.  The male then agreed to come down off the overpass and he was transported to Portneuf Medical Center for evaluation.  Officer P. JOHNSON’S actions reflect the values, mission and vision of the Pocatello Police Department and reflect great credit upon him, our department, and the law enforcement profession.
  • Officer Mackay - For exceptionally meritorious service on the 5th day of May, 2025 which directly resulted in the saving of a human life.  Officers were dispatched to the area of 300 W. Griffith for a male attempting to commit suicide.  Officer MACKAY arrived on scene and observed a male sitting on the sidewalk holding a knife to his wrist.  Officer MACKAY spoke with the male and listened to him talk of his struggles with PTSD from military service.  The male told Officer MACKAY to call the coroner as he planned on ending his life.  Officer MACKAY continued to talk and build rapport with the male eventually getting him to throw the knife down.  The male acknowledged that because of Officer MACKAY’S compassion and professionalism he chose to drop the weapon.  The male was transported to Portneuf Medical Center for evaluation.  Officer MACKAY’S actions reflect the values, mission and vision of the Pocatello Police Department and reflect great credit upon him, our department, and the law enforcement profession.
  • Officer Clemons - For exceptionally meritorious service on the 17th day of May, 2025 which directly resulted in the saving of a human life.  Officers were dispatched to the area of 8500 N.   • Sergeant Buck - For exceptionally meritorious service on the 9th day of May, 2025 which directly resulted in the saving of a human life.  Officers were dispatched to the area of the Benton Street Overpass for a male threatening to jump off the bridge and commit suicide.  Sgt. BUCK arrived on scene and immediately climbed over the fence and started conversing with the male.  Sgt. BUCK then wrapped his arms around the individual and secured him while continuing to speak with him for an additional 45 minutes calming him down.  Coordination with the Pocatello Fire Department brought the male to safety and a successful resolution to the crisis.  Sgt. BUCK’S actions reflect the values, mission and vision of the Pocatello Police Department and reflect great credit upon him, our department, and the law enforcement profession.
