Incident Update from Aspen Square Apartments

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends affected by the tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday, June 17th, at approximately 10:46 a.m. The Rock County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting gunshots from the Aspen Square Apartments, located at 2605 N. Pontiac Drive, apartment #7. This multi-unit apartment complex features individual interior access doors for each apartment.
As officers entered the apartment complex, they discovered one unresponsive adult in the doorway of apartment #7 with a visible gunshot wound. As officers continued towards apartment #7, they observed three additional adults with visible gunshot wound injuries inside the apartment. Officers and medical personnel provided immediate care, resulting in one individual being transported to a medical facility with life-threatening injuries. In contrast, three others were sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
The significant police presence at the apartment complex was necessary to secure the crime scene, where a search warrant was later served. During this process, officers uncovered evidence, including a firearm found near one of the deceased individuals.
After thorough evidence collection and analysis, the preliminary investigation determined that one individual shot the three others before taking their own life. This stems from a domestic relationship between two of the individuals involved. Notably, no children were present in the apartment at the time of the incident.
As of today, the individual who sustained life-threatening injuries is still in critical condition at a medical facility.
The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office is working alongside the Janesville Police Department with the ongoing investigation. The Rock County Medical Examiner will release the names of the deceased individuals.
Due to privacy concerns and the ongoing investigation, we are limited in the information we can release. We take such occurrences very seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety of our community. Currently, there are no known threats to the public.
This heartbreaking event has profoundly affected the families of the deceased, who are now going through the unimaginable loss of their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are mourning. We emphasize the importance of respecting the privacy of the families during this tragic time. At this time, no other information will be released. Thank you for your understanding and support.
We also wish to express our appreciation to all the dispatchers, medical staff, the Janesville Police Department Chaplain Program, and all the responding law enforcement personnel, particularly the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, for their support in evidence collection and processing during this tragic event.
