Suspect in Joshua Tree Flees into the Open Desert as Deputies Attempt to Arrest Him

SUSPECT(S): Nathan Wayne Brown, 39-year-old resident of Joshua Tree

SUMMARY: On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at approximately 2:54 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station, along with the Sheriff's Street Enforcement Team conducted a warrant service in the 62100 block of Canterbury Street, in Joshua Tree. Deputies were attempting to arrest Nathan Wayne Brown, who had an active no-bail felony warrant, related to a grand theft auto case that occurred in Twentynine Palms.
When deputies arrived, Brown fled into the open desert. The deputies pursued Brown on foot as he ignored repeated verbal commands to stop. After a brief chase, Brown was apprehended by Deputy Raul Quiroz.
During a search of Brown’s person, deputies discovered approximately 7.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Brown was arrested and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail for his outstanding no-bail felony warrant, along with charges for PC 148(a)(1) – Resisting a Peace Officer, and H&S 11377(a) – Possession of a Controlled Substance.
