INCIDENT: In-Custody Death Investigation
LOCATION: Central Detention Center, 630 E. Rialto Avenue, San Bernardino
DECEDENT: Willie Toa, 30-years-old, Resident of Redlands
SUMMARY:
On Sunday, June 22, 2025, at about 4:54 a.m., deputies at the Central Detention Center discovered Willie Toa unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and jail medical staff provided medical aid and administered Narcan. Despite lifesaving measures, Toa was pronounced deceased.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division also responded to the jail and assumed the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the manner and cause of death.
Toa was arrested the day prior by the Redlands Police Department for criminal threats and domestic battery, pending a court hearing.
