Heat advisory in effect until 7 p.m.; City heat related closures announced
The City of Hoboken remains under a heat advisory until 7 p.m. and an air quality alert until 11 p.m. tonight.
Due to mechanical issues with the air conditioning system at the Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand St., the offices of Vital Statistics and Licensing, the Division of Housing, and Senior Services are closed for in-person services today. As announced yesterday, the senior room on the first floor of the Multi-Service Center remains closed, and all senior programing has been cancelled for today.
Outdoor recreation, including baseball and softball, will proceed as scheduled this evening. Parents and coaches are encouraged to closely monitor players and ensure everyone stays hydrated, take breaks, and in shaded areas when not on the field.
The free Movies Under the Stars screening of “To Wong Foo...” will occur as scheduled at 9 p.m. at Pier A Park.
Residents are reminded that the heat and humidity being experienced in our region significantly increases the potential for heat related illnesses, especially for the most vulnerable. Remember to stay hydrated and consider checking on vulnerable neighbors.
Hudson County has opened a daytime cooling center for those in need at the Naval Reserve Building, 53 South Hackensack Ave., Kearny. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, through Aug. 31. The County provides bus transportation to the center at a pick-up location at Observer Highway and Park Avenue between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Hoboken Shelter is also serving as a county cooling center for the unhoused from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Residents should monitor local forecasts for additional advisories, watches, and warnings. Updates will be posted on the Hoboken Health Division X page at @HobokenHealthNJ, the Hoboken OEM X page at @HobokenOEM, and the Hoboken Public Safety Department Facebook page.
