On Wednesday, June 18, Det. Smith initiated a vehicle stop in the Old Fort area for a traffic violation. Burton was the driver of the vehicle and Robinson, a passenger.
A subsequent search of the car turned up a trafficking amount of fentanyl (8.9 grams) and drug paraphernalia

Detective Matt Smith with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged 37-year-old Wesley Burton of Marion, and 32-year-old Casey Robinson of Old Fort with numerous drug-related felonies. They included:
- Felony Trafficking Opium or Heroin (2 counts each)
- Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance (1 count each)
- Felony Possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance (1 count each)
- Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (1 count each)
