Fleeing Theft Suspect Nearly Strikes Employee with Vehicle as He Leaves a Store in Apple Valley

INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon
LOCATION: 13540 Navajo Road, Apple Valley
SUSPECT(S): Joshua Grogins, 37-year-old male, resident of Apple Valley
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, deputies with the Apple Valley Station responded to the Dollar General, 13540 Navajo Road, in reference to a theft. An employee at the location witnessed the suspect enter the location and collect merchandise. The suspect failed the pay for the merchandise and exited through the front entrance. The employee followed the suspect out of the store and attempted to get a photograph of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. When doing so, the suspect accelerated the vehicle toward the employee, almost striking the employee. The suspect was not at the location when deputies arrived.
The Apple Valley Detective Bureau determined the identity of the suspect, and a search warrant of his residence was authored. On June 25, 2025, the search warrant served and the suspect, Joshua Grogins, was arrested without incident.
Grogins was transported and booked at High Desert Detention Center for PC245(a)(1)- Assault with a Deadly Weapon, not a Firearm.
