Santa Maria Police make arrest involving a handgun. 
On 6/26/25 at 1511 hours, Santa Maria Police Gang Suppression Team Detectives contacted a juvenile subject near Carmen and Thornburg Street. When they approached him, the subject fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the subject was detained and arrested. It was discovered during the foot pursuit the subject discarded a loaded and unregistered firearm with an extended magazine. Along with the firearm was an additional loaded magazine, and several loose rounds of ammunition.
The juvenile was arrested and booked on multiple weapons violations. This is the fifth illegal firearm located and seized by the Gang Suppression Team in two weeks.
