On June 20, 2025, at approximately 6:42 p.m., Fremont Police Officers responded to the 39000 block of Overacker Avenue to the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located two shooting victims. One person was treated for their injuries at an area trauma hospital and was later released. The second person succumbed to their injuries on scene.
The Fremont Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit responded to take over the investigation. Detectives immediately began pursuing investigative leads, which consisted of obtaining numerous witness statements, reviewing several types of video footage, and serving several search warrants. Through the investigation, Fremont Detectives ultimately identified all the parties involved in this incident. Detectives learned there had been an ongoing dispute between two groups of people over a parking issue on property adjacent to nearby train tracks.
On June 20, 2025, the dispute continued where weapons were introduced by both groups approximately one hour before the shooting occurred. The Fremont Police Department was not contacted at this time. The dispute escalated to the point where subjects from one group shot at the other group and two people sustained gunshot wounds. Following the shooting, Fremont Police Department received several 911 calls and responded immediately.
After closely analyzing the facts and evidence obtained during this investigation, Fremont Police Department presented the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. At this time, prosecutors have declined to file charges in this case. No arrests have been made.
