Update on Missing Persons – Cloquet Case
On June 29, 2025, the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office notified the Cloquet Police Department that they had located the SUV belonging to Daniel Latterell, who was reported missing on May 28, 2025.
The last known whereabouts of Latterell and Korpela were at a gas station near McGregor, Minnesota, on May 26, 2025.
The vehicle was found earlier that day in a remote, farming, and wooded area, approximately two miles north of the city of Aitkin.
Near the vehicle, investigators recovered a deceased individual. The body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
Based on a preliminary examination, the deceased is believed to be 62-year-old Jane Irene Korpela, who was reported missing along with Mr. Latterell.
On June 30, 2025, Cloquet Police Department personnel assisted search teams in the area as efforts continued to locate Mr. Latterell. Ground search crews, K-9 teams, and drones were deployed to the scene. During the search, items of clothing belonging to Mr. Latterell were discovered.
However, he has not yet been located. Search efforts are ongoing. CPD continues to ask for the public’s help in locating Daniel Joseph Latterell. If you’ve seen Daniel, please contact the Cloquet Police Department at 218-879-1247.
