INCIDENT: PC 245(a)(2): Assault with a Deadly Weapon-Firearm, PC 136.1(b)(1): Dissuading a Victim from Reporting a Crime
LOCATION: 1300 block of Marion Avenue, Devore
SUSPECT(S): Michael Rethaford, age 54, resident of Devore
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On Saturday, June 28, 2025, at approximately 6:36 p.m., deputies assigned to the Central Station were dispatched to the 1300 block of Marion Avenue, Devore, for reports of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the suspect, Michael Rethaford, in the driveway of the residence. Rethaford fled from deputies and retreated inside the residence. Shortly thereafter, the victim ran out of the residence and was escorted to safety by awaiting deputies.
Deputies established a perimeter around the property and ordered all occupants to exit the residence. Rethaford refused to comply and a standoff ensued. The department's Specialized Enforcement Division responded to the location and assumed command of the operation. After approximately one and a half hours, Rethaford exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
A search warrant was obtained for the location which led to the seizure of multiple firearms. Rethaford was arrested and booked into Central Detention Center for violation of PC 245(a)(2): Assault with a Deadly Weapon-Firearm and PC 136.1(b)(1): Dissuading a Victim from Reporting a Crime.
