Crime Bulletin Covering the Week of June 23–29, 2025

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Robberies

There were four robberies during the past week.

On Monday, 06-23-25, at approximately 2:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to Target at the Serramonte Center on a report of a shoplifter. A loss prevention employee stated that the suspect selected merchandise and proceeded to the self-checkout. The suspect did not scan all of the merchandise, and for some of the items she did pay for, the price tags had been switched with those of cheaper items. The suspect then pushed a shopping cart containing unpaid merchandise, along with items paid for but with altered price tags, toward the exit. As the suspect was exiting the store, the loss prevention employee and a security guard identified themselves, grabbed the shopping cart, and asked the suspect to speak with them inside the loss prevention office. The suspect refused and threatened to hit the loss prevention employee if he did not release the cart. The loss prevention employee let go of the shopping cart out of fear for his safety. During this interaction, a stack of four orange plastic containers, items that the suspect did not pay for, fell out of the shopping cart. The suspect then placed the remaining merchandise into a white Mazda 6 and fled the scene. The following day, on 06-24-25, an officer located the suspect in the same vehicle, which was parked in the Serramonte Center parking lot. The suspect, a 36-year-old Santa Clara resident, was arrested and booked into jail for robbery.

On Monday, 06-23-25, at approximately 5:39 p.m., officers were dispatched to Gellert Park on the unit block of Wembley Drive on a report of a battery in progress. The victim stated that while walking past the basketball courts near the trash can area and talking on her phone, she noticed a group of 10 to 12 Hispanic and Black males and females. The victim said she recognized them as being from South San Francisco and began questioning why they were at the park that she usually visits. As the victim walked toward the restroom, one of the females, wearing a black ski mask and black sweats, began yelling at her. The victim yelled back, and the suspect punched her in the jaw. A physical altercation between the two ensued. The victim said she tripped and fell, and while on the ground, the group kicked her and stole her cell phone and wallet. An officer located a group of five individuals near the area of Shipley Avenue and King Drive. The victim was transported to their location. When asked if the group were involved, she replied no. The victim was then transported back to Gellert Park. A witness stated that the altercation between the two females appeared mutual and that two adults broke up the fight.

On Friday, 06-27-25, at approximately 1:31 p.m., officers were dispatched to Target at the Serramonte Center on a report of an armed robbery. A security employee stated that she was notified of a suspect pushing a cart of merchandise out of the store. When the suspect walked past all points of sale, employees asked the suspect to return to the security office. The suspect then brandished a rainbow-colored pocket knife at them. Fearing for their safety, the employees backed away. Meanwhile, one of the employees was able to recover the cart of merchandise. The suspect then entered a gray Lexus sedan and fled the scene. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male with a bun, wearing a green camouflage jacket. This investigation is ongoing.

On Friday, 06-27-25, at approximately 3:51 p.m., officers were dispatched to Golden Nails on the 1600 block of Sullivan Avenue on a report of a civil dispute. The store manager stated that the suspect received services, paid $40 (including a $5 tip), and exited the business but remained outside while speaking on the phone. After approximately 30 minutes, the suspect returned and requested a refund. The manager explained that the salon’s policy is not to offer refunds but to offer a redo of the services. The suspect refused the offer and insisted on receiving a cash refund. She then exited the business and returned about 5 minutes later. At that point, the suspect forced her way behind the counter, wrapping one arm around the back of the victim’s neck and shoulders while using her other hand in an attempt to reach into the victim’s shirt pocket. A physical struggle ensued, during which the suspect was able to take $70. While the victim was attempting to call 911, the suspect also took the victim’s cell phone and placed it in her purse. The victim managed to retrieve the phone, and the suspect dropped $20. The suspect, a 36-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into jail for robbery and petty theft with two or more prior convictions. The officer is seeking additional prosecution against the suspect for interfering with the use of a wireless device during an emergency call.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
