At approximately 3:30 p.m. today, the San Gabriel Police Department was notified by the United States Postal Service of a suspicious package located at 1818 S. San Gabriel Boulevard. Upon arrival, postal inspectors made contact with an individual at the location who admitted to possessing illegal fireworks.

The Los Angeles County Bomb Squad has been deployed and is currently overseeing the safe removal of homemade illegal fireworks from the premises. In addition, the San Gabriel Fire Department is on site to manage and properly dispose of any additional fireworks.

As a precaution, a 500-foot evacuation perimeter has been established around the area. Residents and businesses within this zone have been notified, and shelter is available at Gabrielino High School for anyone displaced by the evacuation.

Street closures are currently in effect on San Gabriel Boulevard (Between Valley Blvd. and Marshall Street) within the impacted area. The public is asked to avoid the vicinity to allow emergency personnel to work safely and efficiently.

The situation remains stable and is expected to be resolved within the next 90 to 120 minutes. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

We thank the public for their cooperation and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our community.
