Marion Man Charged with Drug Possession After Vehicle Chase
Detective Matt Smith with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged 35-year-old Matthew James Lewis of Marion with the following offenses:
- Felony Possession of Methamphetamine
- Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Gun
- Misdemeanor Child Abuse (3 counts)
Lewis was denied bond due to already being out on pretrial release.
On Wednesday, June 11, Det. Smith initiated a stop on a GMC SUV on Ashworth Road following a traffic violation. The driver, Matthew Lewis, failed to comply and continued driving for a short time before pulling over.
Three juveniles were removed from the vehicle prior to a free air sniff by MCSO K9 Hiko being conducted. K9 Hiko gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics, and the vehicle was searched. Detectives found a suspected amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a handgun and an amount of cash.
Lewis was arrested and transported to the McDowell County Detention Center.
