INCIDENT: Evading with Disregard for Safety and Driving Under the Influence
LOCATION: E Avenue and Lime Street, Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): Nael Matti, 56-year-old Resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY: On Thursday, July 3, 2025, at about 8:54 p.m., Deputy Jaramillo, with the Hesperia Police Station, observed a white Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck run a stop sign near E Avenue and Lime Street, in the city of Hesperia. Jaramillo conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which initially pulled over and complied. The driver, Nael Matti, was contacted by Jaramillo at the driver’s door. Jaramillo believed Matti was possibly intoxicated, but before he could complete a DUI investigation, Matti accelerated his vehicle and fled from Jaramillo at a high speed.
Jaramillo pursued Matti, who drove at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, ran multiple stop signs, and swerved all over the road, endangering the lives of himself, the general public, and the pursuing deputies. Eventually, Matti stopped his vehicle, but he refused to comply with deputy’s commands to exit the truck with his hands up. Less lethal beanbag rounds were deployed, and Matti was eventually taken into custody without further incident. No one was injured during or after the pursuit. Matti was arrested for felony evasion, driving under the influence, and an outstanding warrant for a previous driving under the influence charge and violation of probation.
