D.A.R.E Summer Middle School Programs

D.A.R.E. Summer Middle School Programs
June 9 – July 4, 2025
The Pocatello Police Department proudly wrapped up another successful year of the D.A.R.E. Summer Middle School Programs. This annual initiative continues to grow—in fact, participation doubled last year—and this summer, 40 middle school students took part in a month filled with opportunities, learning, and unforgettable memories.
Despite competing summer jobs and extracurricular commitments, participants remained fully engaged throughout the program. Led by dedicated School Resource Officers—Corporal Jo. Johnson, Corporal Herrick, Officer Kendall, and Officer Nielsen—students developed strong connections with positive mentors while gaining critical life skills and building lasting friendships.
Program Highlights:

  • Community Service Project – Students painted the bathrooms at Raymond Park, leaving a visible impact on their community.
  • Physical Fitness Activities – Promoting health, discipline, and teamwork.
  • Art Lessons – Encouraging creativity and self-expression.
  • Field Trip to Hill Air Force Museum – Connecting youth with history and military service.
  • Ropes Course & Outdoor Challenges – Building confidence, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Field Training Exercise: Laser Tag Scenarios – Teaching strategy, communication, and teamwork in an exciting way.
The month concluded with the students proudly walking in the 4th of July Parade, passing out candy and representing the D.A.R.E. program to the Pocatello community.
These enriching experiences are made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of local businesses, families, and community partners. Because of their continued support, the program remains free of charge and accessible to all students.
A special thank you to Safe Salt Supply for creating a beautiful new D.A.R.E. banner, which will be displayed at future events. Burns Leavitt, owner of Safe Salt Supply, and his wife Cathy, who has served as D.A.R.E. Chairperson since 2011, continue to demonstrate unwavering support for our youth programs. Burns shared:
“At Safe Salt Supply, we’re more than just salt – we’re rooted in community. We proudly support the Pocatello Police Department and the D.A.R.E. program. Giving back is our desire!”
