Just after midnight on July 5, 2025, SVPD Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle suspected of being involved in street racing. The driver failed to yield and entered the eastbound 118 Freeway from Madera Road. A vehicle pursuit was initiated as the suspect vehicle continued eastbound on the 118 Freeway, reaching speeds of up to 115 miles per hour. CHP assumed control of the pursuit at the 118 Freeway and Rocky Peak Road. Shortly after CHP took over, visual contact with the suspect vehicle was lost. 
 
Officers utilized department resources and were able to retain a license plate of the suspect's vehicle and conducted a follow-up at the registered owner's address in Simi Valley. The investigation revealed 18-year-old Gavin Sheets, a Simi Valley resident, was the driver of the vehicle, and he was arrested for Reckless Evading and Speed Contest.
